Dear Lipika and Naho,

I find it interesting that Lipika’s act of letting go through sound and Naho’s visual response to letting go both involve some sense of movement - whether it be sound waves mediated by the piano or trace of changing movement in drawing.

Since my relocation to New York City, I’ve been increasingly thinking about how to ground myself better while being in motion, especially when the motion is instigated by external forces. At times, it feels difficult to embody the practice of letting go in a place full of social entanglements and tension.

I currently have a studio in governors island where I see water outside my window. As I look out the water towards the Manhattan cityscape, waves of water are ceaselessly pushed by the wind, light becomes long, and people come and go. In these ephemeral moments, I am at peace. I’d love to invite you both over some time to watch the water from the island.
